Happy Valley is considered to be one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Bellingham. Due to slow development in this area, residents enjoy a variety of homes built in every decade. This neighborhood grew primarily as a single family residential area, but with the expansion of Western Washington University, it has become a hotspot for students.
Connely Creek Nature Area can also be found here and offers a great spot for walking and viewing plants and wildlife. Just southwest of the neighborhood you can find Fairhaven Park which features basketball and tennis courts, playgrounds, as well as fields and trails.
Sehome Village is located just north of Happy Valley and features a Haggen supermarket and several other smaller shops. To the west, you can find the historical Fairhaven shopping district which contains a variety of small shops and restaurants.
One unique option the Happy Valley residents enjoy, is that they can receive a complete education from kindergarten through graduate school without traveling more than a mile from home. Most neighborhood children attend either Larrabee or Happy Valley Elementary School. Sehome High School is also found within the Happy Valley’s boundaries. Fairhaven Middle School is located just across the neighborhoods southwestern boundary. Also just north of Happy Valley, you will find Western Washington University.
